The Tuttle Junior High girl’s basketball team swept Newcastle this past Monday, with the seventh grade team improving it’s record to 10-1 by crushing the Lady Racers 39-6.
"It was a great effort by these young ladies. I like watching this group, they really get after you with their defense," Coach Vick said.
The Lady Tigers held Newcastle scoreless during the second and third quarters. Lady Tigers will continue play this Thursday.
Box scores were Jones 10, Gibson 8, Ward 6, Griffin 4, Kelley 3, Rumbaugh 2, Hickman 2, Koons 2 and Coats 2.
The eighth grade team improved it’s record to 8-3 by defeating the Lady Racers 33-31. It was a close game back and forth, and the relentless press finally paid off as the Lady Tigers went on a 6-0 run late in the fourth quarter to finish out the game.
Box scores were Meier 17, Garrett 7, Carel 4, Winters 2 and Loard 2.
The freshman got back on the winning track by defeating the Lady Racers 27-16. The Lady Tigers jumped on the Racers 8-1 and never looked back, avenging an earlier 33-19 loss this season to the Lady Racers.
"I thought we did a good job with our press. I look at the win as a 25-point swing. These young ladies worked hard during the break and I think tonight showed it," Coach Vick said.
Box scores were Ward 8, Sims 6, Bradberry 5, Clabaugh 3, A White 3 and Combs 2.
The Varsity Lady Tigers will play this weekend at the Wellston Tournament. They begin play Thursday at 4:20 p.m. vs Luther, with win play at 4:20 p.m. on Friday.
“We had a good break, the young ladies worked hard. This is a good tournament and we could possibly play two really good ranked teams this weekend," Coach Vick said. “Delaney Scrivner is expected to return to action against Newcastle and should be back at full speed against Washington.”
The girls bracket is posted at www.ladytigersbball.net.
