Bridge Creek continues streak, beats Bombers

Bobcats have won seven consecutive games since losing to Blanchard in first week of the season

BRIDGE CREEK – Ryan Spangler threw for four touchdowns and Blake Henderson ran for three Friday, lifting Bridge Creek to a key 46-28 district victory over Frederick.

The win lifted the Bobcats to 7-1 overall and gave Bridge Creek its seventh consecutive win, a school record for most consecutive wins.

More importantly, it moved Bridge Creek closer to a District 2A-3 title. The 'Cats are 5-0 in district and one game ahead of second place Lindsay. Bridge Creek also holds the tie-break edge, having beaten the Leopards in head-to-head play.

Next UP

Bridge Creek travels to Crooked Oak (2-6) for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff Friday. It closes the season hosting Comanche (4-4) Nov. 6.

On Friday, Spangler continued his assault on 2A secondaries. After completing 15 of 25 passes for 365 yards, the tall, talented senior remained in the top five of nearly ever 2A passing category. He's first in touchdowns (23), second in attempts (218), and second in completions (138).

He's thrown only three interceptions.

Henderson is now creeping up on the leading 2A rushers as well. He's gained 806 yards on 154 carries and scored 14 rushing touchdowns. Henderson is averaging 5.23 yards per carry.

Not Easy

It didn't come easy Friday for the 'Cats, however. Frederick scored on two passes early and held a 15-14 lead over Bridge Creek at the end of the first quarter.

Henderson helped keep Bridge Creek in it by scoring on a 1-yard run, and Spangler answered Frederick's second score with a 32-yard scoring strike of his own to Caden Lock.

Then, Bridge Creek dominated the second quarter. The Bobcats scored 20 points in the second stanza, taking a 34-21 lead into the break and never looking back.

Finishing

Lock caught a 52-yard touchdown pass, and then Spangler threw two touchdowns to Josh Pershica, one of 13 yards and another of 28.

Henderson added two fourth quarter touchdowns to close the scoring.

Bridge Creek garnered 24 first downs and 587 total yards.

Bridge Creek is seeking another trip to the Class 2A playoffs. The Bobcats were beaten by eventual state champ Heritage Hall in last year’s postseason.

Bridge Creek has become a regular playoff contender under coach Jerry Wallis.
