The Tulsa Mid American National hosted 28 teams from schools from across Oklahoma, Texas, and Kansas making the competition fierce. The Tigers brought home nine wrestlers with honors and placed in the top five of the team standings. It was the tigers dominating force which enabled them to end the tournament in fourth place with 178.5 team points overall. Third place was Allen, Texas with 185 points, second place went to Union with 188 points and first place went to Claremore with 201 points.
“Overall, I am pleased with our performance” said Head Coach Matt Surber, “We just need to continue to work hard and get better.”
Individually, number one ranked Shane Woods brought home gold in the 215 pound weight class. Woods pinned David Lloyd of Columbus KS in 1:11 during the Championship Finals.
In the 171 pound match, number one ranked Cole Gracey fought a battle against number two-ranked Ronnie Balfour of Union. Gracey lost by a fall in the second period to bring home second place for the Tigers. In the 112 pound match, Colton Roberts won a 1-0 decision over Cory Vann of Inola in the Consolation Finals.
Fourth place was awarded to Jake Simpson in the 189 pound match and Sterling Hawkins in the 125 pound match.
In the 145 pound match, Zachary Beard brought on a fifth place finish with a 7-5 decision over Matt Muhlinghause of Edmond North. Sixth Place was awarded to Jake Pierce in the 152 pound match and Seth Hutchison in the 130 pound match. Seventh place went to Brandon Cox at 285 pounds who pinned Nick Sprenger of Owasso in 1:05 and eighth place went to Brody Spencer in the 125 pound match.
Everyone is invited to come out and enjoy some mat pounding excitement as the Tiger will travel to Perry for a dual on Tuesday, Dec 14 and then host Western Heights for a dual on Thursday, Dec 17.
