The Lady Tigers are off to a two and two start during the first two weeks of the season, with two of those losses coming at the hands of top 20 teams ( Blanchard and Newcastle).
The Lady Tigers were defeated by Blanchard 38-33. After holding a half-time lead, the Blanchard man-to-man press caused problems for the Tigers as they tried to hold on for the lead.
“We had our chances to win the game, we just didn’t make the plays that needed to be made to win the game,” Coach Vick said.
The Lady Tigers then were defeated by #9 Newcastle 41-24 the following Tuesday. The game was tied at 23-23 and three straight turnovers led to a 6-0 run and the Tigers never recovered.
“Our game plan was to play a triangle and two on Newcastle’s best two players,” Vick said. “They then forced us to play man and that played and we couldn’t match up.”
The Lady Tigers got in the win column by defeating Lindsey by 15.
“ I thought we played very well,” Vick said. “We got up more shots, which had been a problem the first two games of the season.”
The Lady Tigers followed up Friday’s win with another victory Saturday as they defeated Lone Grove 41-32 to go to 2-2.
“Lone Grove had two 6’0 post players, I thought our post did a great job in holding them on defense. Our press also caused them problems and we were able again to get up a lot of shots. We were also 13-17 from the free throw line to close out the game,” Vick said.
“I am very pleased at what we have done so far this season. We are a very young team and we do miss Delaney Scrivner presence in the paint. We have been in every game so far this season and the girls play extremely hard, that is all I can ask for. We will be fine.”
